Personal Care Assistant

Up to $17.00 an hour 


NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED


**Must have a valid driver license, pass background check, and own cellphone**
Position: Personal Care Assistant 

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) is responsible for providing Assistance with Daily Living (ADL) care and engaging activities for participants while in their homes. The PCA will follow a plan of care for each participant to ensure the optimal level of independence and well-being. The PCA is responsible for appropriate documentation to include ADL care, housekeeping, errands, engagement of activities and other items provided in the participant’s electronic health record.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Attend to the daily needs of participants on an individual basis.
  • Understands and adheres to established policies and procedures.
  • Performs personal care, bathing, and hands on care as assigned.
  • Complete housekeeping tasks as assigned to include, but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming, errands, etc. Provide opportunities for leisure activities and foster independence in the choice and participation of those activities.
  • Completes appropriate visit records by the end of each shift.
  • Adapt and modify activities in efforts to better serve each individual.
  • Ensure participant safety in the home.
  • Provide ongoing support, guidance, role modeling and supervision to participants.
  • Provide a supportive environment that includes opportunities for individuals to determine, to the fullest extent possible, personal preferences for daily schedules and routines.
  • Maintain knowledge of on-going issues and developments as well as informing supervisor of issues and concerns.
  • Communicate in a professional manner.
  • Execute duties to reflect reasonable safety standards. Universal/standard precautions must be utilized and training obtained in areas that constitute risk.
  • Remain alert at all times throughout scheduled work shift.
  • Participate in core training and maintain certification of required trainings.
  • Provide crisis intervention and access emergency services as needed.
  • Attends and actively participates in staff meetings.
  • Ensure individuals we support are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with Independent Adult Day Centers Human Rights Policy.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Direct care experience working with geriatric and/or adults diagnosed with Intellectual Disabilities preferred
  • A valid driver's license in state of residence preferred
  • Qualifying criminal background
  • Must be able to demonstrate competence in certain areas of training including but not limited to CPR, First Aid, non-violent physical interventions, behavior management, ADL care and management, and driving
  • Ability to calmly and repetitively model appropriate behavior in difficult or challenging situations
  • Ability to react to situations, such as: rescue, and preventing an individual from harming themselves

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects/people with or without assistance. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to use general office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, telephones, etc. The employee must be able to drive a car. 

PSYCHOLOGICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The employee must possess the ability to process vague, abstract verbal and written instructions; work under stress, interruptions, and tight deadlines; problem solve, answer questions and evaluate results of performance; and visualize and assess abstract ideas.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: From $13.00 to $17.00 per hour

Direct Service Workforce Grant

FSSA is issuing New Serenity Personal Care Services funding to support our direct service workforce in the amount of 2585.91, for 2023. We plan to use the funding in the following way to invest in our DSWs: 

Transportation Vouchers: In order to relieve some of the pressure of increased cost of travel, we will issue transportation vouchers to help pay for gas, travel, and other car related expenses. We will dedicate 100% of the grant amount towards this activity. To issue the vouchers, we plan to issue gas cards.  Timing wise, our goal is to use the funding as soon as possible so that we can provide immediate funding to support our workforce. We are aiming to spend all funding by March 30th, 2023. Please reach out to TaKeisha Poole with any question regarding how the funds will be spent.
